Modern day tracking system normally uses GPS or GLONASS (GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM).
BASIC DEFINITION:: The process of determining the location of a vehicle using different technologies like gps and other radio navigation systems that operate through satellites and ground based stations.
DETAILED OVERVIEW::By following triangulation or trilateration methods the tracking system can easily calculate the exact location, speed, distance travelled by a vehicle.and the location and other informations regarding the vehicles can be viewed on a digital map via internet, which can then be downloaded form a GPS unit at a base station to a computer for further analysis.
INTERNAL UNITS:: Any vehicle system mainly consists of three main parts::1) mobile vehicle unit 2) fixed base station 3)data base and software system.
VEHICLE UNIT:: it is connected to the vehicle having either a GPS/GSM modem.and functions with the tracking software by recieving signals form GPS satellites or radio sattion points with the help of an antenna the controller modem then converts the data and sends the vehicle location data to the server.
FIXED BASE STATION UNIT::Now the task involved is sending the data from the server to the center, which is accompolished by a wireless network .base satations have tracking software and geographic map to find out the location of a vehicle.here Maps of every city and landmarks are available in the based station that has an in-built Web Server.
DATA BASE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEM::The position information or the coordinates of each visiting points are stored here. to view the location of vechile the users have to connect themselves to the web server with the respective vehicle ID stored in the data base.
